Travel Tips

Air Travel

There have been many horror stories of pets loaded in airplane cargo areas for travelling as required by some airlines depending on the size of your pet.

Some outcomes are that pets can freeze, be overheated, lack water, or become traumatized by the loud engine noises.

Most airlines will let you carry on a small pet in a small carrier.
If your dogs are small enough, you could try that but ask what their rules and regulations are.
The airlines will just count that as a carry-on bag.
You need to remember that dogs can suffer eardrum problems also, due to flying, just like we do.

If you can't take your dogs, leave them with a family that you trust or a professionally certified run kennel (inspect first before leaving your pet there).

Hotels -- call or check online to see if the hotel is "pet friendly" and allows pets to stay in the room with you. Some do charge an extra cleaning fee. A mention of bed bugs here is necessary since they can get a free ride or lay their eggs on your pet unknowningly in your rented room.

RV-ing -- another way to travel with your pet is to rent a RV and take a road trip in the comfort of a home on wheels. Your pet might just like the feel of a home environment.

Camping (tent) -- another choice but remember, when you camp in wooded areas, insects or other animals (nocturnal, like nosey skunks) could present issues for your pet. Make sure your pet is well identified (tags, micro-chipped).
