Potty Training

Fudgie states:

I am having problems potty training my Bichon.

Beau replies:

Fudgie,
Give the potty training some time. It took our Beau about 10-11 months toget the hang of it consistently. He's 2 years old now and doesn't have an accident unless he's sick. And even then, he does everything he can to get outside. During those times, his mom just doesn't get to the door fast enough.

I found for the potty training we just had to get very firm with our voices. Yelling doesn't work, but a very consistent stern voice and patience helped the most. And of course, lots and lots of praise when he did go outside. We also used treats to reinforce when he did a good job. Beau has been the delight of our life. He's just the best little guy. We can't imagine life without him.
Good luck! Beau's Mom & Dad

Fudgie responds:

Thank you for your encouraging letter. I have tried and tried to be patient with her but after 10 months of cleaning up poop -- You just get to the end of your rope!!!!

I am a widow and it is very cold here--I have tried to train her to puppy potty pads so that I don't have to take her out at night alone or when it is bitter cold. She peepees on the pad good--never, never has an accident--but she will not poop on them!!!!! I also give her treats and praise her--but when she poops (usually hides it) I do talk to her in a firm voice and she looks at me like she knows what I am saying--she is very smart and also the most loving pet I have ever had!!!
