Rawhide or Chew-ez Treats

Jean writes:

Just thought I would introduce this to you all.

If you give your dogs those rawhide bones or even those "chew-ez" treats sold as snacks please be warned that they contain arsenic, in a small amount but enough to irritate a dog's system, in particular, a small dog as a Bichon.

Your dog's reaction to this ingredient would be throwing up bile after ingesting.

My dogs went through this until I found this information out and never gave them any more.

The best alternative to this is to use those "nyla" bones you can get at the pet store which are much safer. long lasting and easier to clean.

(Just a note here: I have a degree (in addition to my own professional degree) in Small Animal Sciences and this was an issue discussed in nutrition class.)

Paula responds:
Thanks Jean for the warning. I've read a lot of info on treats and chew-snacks for pets and it's amazing what goes into a "food" item for a dog, etc.. We are fooled most of the time into thinking that our choices would be safe for our pet(s). It's a shame that we must investigate everything that we become involved in, just to ensure that it is safe for our family. If anyone else has impotant info on pet foods, etc., please speak up!

katcar responds:
In addition to the poison in the raw hide, it's so unsafe for, especially small dogs. If they bite off a piece and swallow it whole, the raw hide can swell, causing choking, even death.

Bailey and Casey's Mom responds:

OMG!
Why would they even put a small amount of it in treats????
On occasion my baby gets an upset tummy and throws up bile.

NEVER again any more rawhide!!!!!!!
